Walk-2-Work vessels / service operation vessels (SOV) are intended to provide safe transfer of personnel and smaller cargoes to different offshore platforms such as wind turbines especially during harsh weather conditions. The most remarkable attribute of Walk-2-Work vessels is the motion compensated gangway which is available from various providers. The purpose of that gangway is to dampen/stabilize the vessels motions to ensure a safe transfer – depending on the vessel design and gangway type safe transfer can be provided up to 3 m Hs wave height. Next to the gangway system Walk-2-Work vessels usually feature a comparably high number of cabins for Charterers personnel, a work deck for storage of equipment and a heave compensated crane. In order to enable the vessel to transfer personnel also via other means than the gangway, often a heli deck and/or a boatlanding for crew transfer vessels are installed as well. For the wellbeing of the personnel onboard different recreational facilities are available, as well as high standard cabins and meals. Walk-to-Work vessels have become an efficient solution for reducing transit times from shore as well as increasing safety due to personnel being well rested and less seasick.
