Mini crew transfer vessels are mainly used for the rapid transport of offshore personnel and smaller spare parts or tools. The fender system at the bow helps the vessel to approach the access ladder of a wind turbine or an accommodation vessel and enables the personnel transported to embark safely. The vessels are designed to transport up to 12 people and, in addition, can be loaded on board a field support vessel offshore or launched into the water by means of a crane or launch system. Depending on the specific design, this type of vessel achieves a speed of between 30 and 40 knots (approx. 70 km/h) and is propelled by an outboard or inboard motor. The hull usually consists of glass-reinforced plastics, aluminium or Kevlar. The superstructures are for the most part fabricated from aluminium and provide good protection for passengers in a wide range of weather conditions.
